About the Flick! Experimental Film Festival:
Flick! Experimental Film Festival is a small-scale festival presented by University Libraries’ Digital Media Commons (DMC) since 2015. It is dedicated to promoting and encouraging the production and exhibition of experimental, innovative and creative short films.
Flick! curates diverse local, national and international image in movement works that offer alternative points of view and alternative processes of filmmaking to the mainstream media, and pieces displaying risk-taking and innovative solutions in telling a story.
Flick! also hosts guest artist talks, curates films from an open, free, international submission call and hosts a final screening of the selected and awarded works in the following categories: experimental, Afrofuturism, screen dance, video art and animation.

- September 23, 2020, at 7 p.m.
Professor, filmmaker and scholar Michael Frierson will talk about his latest book, Film and Video Editing Theory: How Editing Creates Meaning. A question and answer session will follow the book discussion. Frierson is a professor in the Department of Media Studies at UNC Greensboro. He is the author of Clay Animation: American Highlights 1908 to the Present, which won the McLaren-Lambart Award from the National Film Board of Canada for the best scholarly book on animation for 1995. He teaches film theory, film/video production and editing. He has also produced, shot and edited short films for Nickelodean, Children’s Television Workshop, MSN Video and AT&T Blueroom. Professor, filmmaker and scholar Jennida Chase will talk about multiplatform filmmaking. A question and answer session will follow the discussion. Chase is a multi-media artist who primarily works with film, video, animation, sound and photography. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Media Studies at UNCG. In 1998 she received her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2009 she completed her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Photography and Film. Her work has been extensively shown in galleries, museums, art fairs and film/video festivals worldwide. Register today!

Los Angeles-based photographer Adrian White creates portraiture primarily dealing with memory, trauma and history from the perspective of people of the African diaspora. A question and answer session about his recent exhibition that mixes photography and video will follow the discussion. White was born and raised in the small tobacco and cotton town of Stantonsburg, North Carolina. He received his bachelor of arts from North Carolina Central University in 2002, a bachelor of fine arts from the Brooks Institute of Photography in 2014 and a master of fine arts in photography and related media from the Parsons School of Design in 2019.
