University Libraries is pleased to announce Dylan Morris, student desk manager in the Access Services Department, is the 2021 winner of the Outstanding Student Library Worker Award.
While working for University Libraries, Morris helped patrons and answered questions at the circulation desk. He could always be counted on to do any job necessary and in a highly professional manner. Just a few of the characteristics that propelled Morris to win this year’s award was his stellar attendance record, keen attention to detail and great work ethic.
“Dylan has a sunny nature and is always smiling,” said Desk and Employment Services Operations Manager Marilyn Hanichak. “He is friendly, approachable and helps others complete tasks when needed.”
During his time with University Libraries, Morris worked well with his colleagues, including other students and staff. He coordinated training for them and served as mentor to new student workers. Even in the face of adversity, Morris seemed to rise to any occasion, especially during the pandemic. He always had the safety of others on his mind.
“He made several suggestions on how to improve our pandemic desk services and procedures,” said one colleague.
Morris began working for University Libraries as a student assistant and later as desk lead before he was promoted to student desk manager in Jackson Library. He graduated from UNC Greensboro this past May. The award, made possible by a generous gift of $500 from David Arneke, is given annually. Morris’s name will also be placed on the award plaque that is on display in Jackson Library.
